Academic Service Learning  WORD/IMAGE PROJECT:
The Gowanus Canal Conservancy Clean and Green  Event

PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS: 
Building on your service experience, Silent Beaches Gowanus Canal reading, and additional research, create a digital word and image project that creatively addresses  the impact of past and present human practices on this particular urban waterway and its environs.  Your project will consist of two parts, each containing a gallery module and a text module
Set-up
A. Create a section on your e-Portfolio called “Service”
Part I
A. Using the gallery module on your e-Portfolio, upload at least 6 photos* or paintings that relate to your service experience. Each image must be accompanied by a brief caption.  Captions are found on the gallery module in edit mode.
B. Using the text module, write a narrative statement that includes the following:
-       A vivid description your service experience
-       Ways in which the service experience heightened your awareness (specific  goals and challenges of watershed remediation)
-       Actionable differences that can be made in daily habits
-       Other reflections or thoughts based on your service experience(s)

PART II
A. Using the gallery module on your e-Portfolio, upload at least 6 photos* or paintings that relate the history of this service (or related social issues).
Each image must be accompanied by a brief caption. 
B. Using the text module, write a brief history that includes the following:
-       Research based facts gathered in relation to your service experience
-       History of the kind of service in which you have participated
-       Relevant quotes
-       Works Cited (use high quality source material!)

*IMAGES:
- Photographs of the service site
- Photographs of neighborhood conditions
- Relevant works of art, i.e. paintings, sculpture, photography
- historical images ideally will go back to prior to 1950
