Character Transformation Project: Benign to Sinister
Context: Illustration is the art of expressing a given idea, oftentimes using the human body as vehicle.
Overview: In this project you will create a character and in four steps transform that character from expressing a benign appearance to one that is sinister.
Steps:
1. Brainstorm: write out a stream of consciousness list of possible characters and their attributes
2. Research: find an save historical or contemporary characters from painting, sculpture, illustration, photography, etc. with attributes that you can draw from for your character and its various transformative stages. You will also want to find sources for composition and color ideas. This is very important step to create an organized reference "library".
3.. Roughs or thumbnail sketches: you will want to have plenty of these for each phase of the transformation so that you can choose the very best. I would say a minimum of five per transformation phase. Due Friday 9/4
4. Edit and revise: make changes and improvements
5. Compose the roughs into an expressive and cohesive arrangement; draw out. Due Tuesday 9/8
6. Begin the finished phase: revise, add color Project due Friday 9/11.
