This course will introduce you to a broad range of visual art in various media and from different cultures and time periods. Together we will to investigate aesthetics, techniques, and the context within which these works were created. In this course context is understood as the circumstances surrounding the creation of any given work of art.  These circumstances may be economic, social, political, environmental, technological, biographical, historical, or any combination thereof.

 

We have the good fortune to be studying in New York City, home to some of the greatest collections of art and architecture on the planet. You will have the opportunity to enjoy first hand some of the world’s finest examples of painting, sculpture, architecture, and film, all the while developing your critical thinking, writing, research , website design -- skills vital for your success in all areas of pursuit.
