Dream House
And now for something completely different...

Let's try our hand at designing our own Dream House!

We will use the free ware called Planner 5D:

It's free and user friendly. There's a basic tutorial when you start. Start from scratch rather than use the pre-made templates.

Think of it a an opportunity to use the principles of architecture in a fun and personal way.

It is also an opportunity to put abstract principles into practice!

Don't expect to be a master - I certainly am not!

Considerations: Form and Function

-
Scale: overall floor plan and then scale and proportion of individual rooms
-
Horizontality/Verticality: Do you want a small footprint with may floors, such as a brownstone or triplex? OR do you prefer a larger footprint with less floors?
-
Light: how many windows do you want?
-
Flow: placement of exterior and interior doors? How does one move through the space?
-
Materials: wood, tile, stone, brick
-
Color: paint, carpets, furniture

Steps:
1. Design the overall size and shape of your home. It can be a simple rectangle, or it can have extensions, alcoves, outside porches, balconies, etc.
2. Create interior divisions, i.e. rooms.

3. Add windows, doors, steps.
4. Create additional floors. (repeat steps 2 and 3)

5. Choose materials for floors, walls. Choose paint colors, etc.

6. Choose furniture

7. Save file

8. Share the link to Blackboard
