My favorite sections of the course were the Analyzing Art, Early Modern Art, and the Public Art sections. I enjoyed the Analyzing Art section because I found that it helped me to gain skills as I am now better able to interpret art rather that just looking at it at face value. I also enjoyed the Early Modern Art section of the course as I found it very interesting to see the evolution of what was classified as art in the past in comparison to what is classified as art today. I enjoyed the Public Art section of the course because I personally have always enjoyed viewing public art so the fact that this was incorporated into the course was so amazing. I found it interesting to learn about all the sections but these sections were my favorites.
I loved Public Art and Immigration/Early Photography. Public Art stood out to me because I am not from NYC so it was incredibly interesting to learn about hidden gems/art pieces and their stories around the city that not all tourists are aware of. Also, I have always been fascinated by photography so it was interesting to sit down and hear about its history in an actual classroom setting, but I also thought the blend with immigration was very intriguing and relevant.
Early Modern Art
Analyzing Art
Immigration and Early Photography
My favorite sections were Architecture I, Skyscrapers, Contemporary Architecture, Pop Art - Street Art, Public Art. I feel like the second half of this course was my favorite section, since I originally wanted to become an architect, so the architecture sections were my favorite. I loved seeing the pop art - street art and Public art because of the stories behind it. I especially love public art because the artists who have made them had such deep meanings behind it and it really adds a lot of art in the world.
I personally liked Early Modern Art because I found it interesting to see what types of art pieces people enjoyed or participated in during that time. Furthermore, there was more realism art, which I find to be my favorite type of art style.

I enjoyed all of the architecture sections because it opened my eyes to many aspects of NYC life. The building my dream home assignment was one of my favorites as well.

Personally, I enjoyed the first unit: Analyzing Art. This is because we learned all the basics in this unit and it was fun and engaging.

Pop art, Harlem Renaissance, early modern art

Analyzing Art - I just liked the way it challenged my understanding of art, going from general format (a la canvas shape and size) and then working my way in deeper and more contextually. I also liked the separation from content and context, it helped me think on artwork more intently.

Early Modern Art - I'm not the biggest fan of modern art, but tracking the trend and the factors that led to it made me appreciate it at least a bit more.

Pop Art, Street Art, Public Art - I'm just genuinely interested in these and it helped me get more insight and be more aware of the super modern art going on.
Analyzing Art/Early Modern Art: I enjoyed these two sections because we were able to apply terminology that we learned to actual works of art. It was kind of fun being able to identify certain elements in pieces, as well as give our own interpretations of the art.

Contemporary Architecture: It was very interesting seeing the different designs of modern-day buildings. Each building had its own unique shape, size, vibe, etc. I also liked hearing about their histories as well.

Public Art: I have personally had a fascination for public art/street art. Seeing and hearing about the background behind some of the artists and the art was very insightful and thought-provoking for me.

My favorite section of the course was public art because it showed me some sights that even though I've lived in New York my whole life I haven't seen and that I'd like to see.

I liked "Analyzing Art" the best because I found it interesting how certain things that artists look for when designing their art that I never thought of. For example, how there is certain repetition of a shape in the work.
Pop Art - Street Art and Public art was cool because of the varying levels of creativity

Immigration and Early Photography was my favorite section of this course because it opened my mind to the different backgrounds that make up our world today. The trip to the Tenement Museum was also a great real life experience to apply what we learned to the real world.

My favorite section of the course was the Pop Art - Street Art. I grew up around pop art because my mom was really influenced by the works of Keith Haring and Andy Warhol so it was interesting to learn more about the art type.

The Immigration Narrative was the most beneficial to me as it allowed me to learn a lot about New York and its history, and enabled me to to learn the various immigration groups that came to New York which influence why it is so diverse today.

The MoMA Midterm - Modern Art/Art in Context assingment was the most influential to me because i was able to go to a museum I don't usually go to and learn more about the styles of art presented there.

I really loved creating the wix website. It is a great skill to learn and once you get used to it, you can create your own website with your own features. if you are interested in creating or working for any business of any type, creating a website is a must. I am very very grateful for learning how to create a website.

Met Museum, MOMA - similar to the content/context, helped me see art in a new and fresh way that let me break it down in a way that interested me

Immigration Narrative - just an important assignment that felt good to learn about and do

Wix website - great to save paper, helped ensure uploads, and wix cooperated well with assignment additions
I think the dream house was most beneficial to me. I watch a lot of house hunting and renovating shows with my family and it was nice to be able to think about what I actually want in a future house for myself.

I think that my favorite assignment was the MET visual analysis but I really liked creating the WIX website because it allowed us to express ourselves and learned how easy it is to make a website.

The most beneficial assignments for me were the immigration narrative, because it allowed me to explore what life as an immigrant was like back in the late 1800's. The State of Things was an important one because we are in one of the world's most diverse cities and it is important to explore the problems that may come with that. The final presentation has also been one of my favorites because it was my first time using the recording feature of power point and I feel like I now have a better understanding of the tool. Not only that but my topic was very interesting. Overall, I like that in many ways, these assignments broadened my knowledge of the community.

An assignment that I enjoyed way more than I thought I was has to be the Met Museum Visual Analysis! I loved getting to visit the Met, and that particular project forced me to use critical thinking, writing and observing skills that I had never utilized before. Incorporating so many vocabulary words from class into my report also helped me a lot!

The Dream House was definitely most beneficial to me. When I buy my home in the future, I want to design it so I found it interesting what is involved, especially minor details and the abundance of options.

Met Museum Visual Analysis - This was beneficial to me because it taught me how to write a visual analysis of an artwork. From there, I feel like it helped me describe my artwork when I need to talk about it.

Immigration Narrative - This helped me understand my parents better, in that this project had me interview them about their immigration experience.

The State of Things - This was beneficial for me because it really opened my eyes about discrimination.

MoMA Midterm - Modern Art/Art in Context: While I have been to the Met many times, I have never been to MoMA so this was beneficial in that I got to see more contemporary styles of art. I also liked that I was able to visually interpret my selected piece and find out some of the history behind it as well.

Immigration Narrative: The trip to the Tenement Museum really left an impact on me because I got to put myself in the setting, and it definitely gave more vividness to the writing for my assignment.

State of Things: This allowed me to reflect on the situations behind my friends, family, and other groups of people living in New York. I enjoyed giving a voice to those who still experience any form of discrimination today.

Wix Website: In general, setting up the Wix website allowed my creativity to shine. Personally, being a STEM major, I do not have much time for creative projects. However, building my Wix site was a fun way to express myself.

Immigration Narrative
MoMA Midterm - Modern Art/Art in Context
Dream House

MoMA Midterm - Modern Art/Art in Context and the Met Museum Visual Analysis were my favorite because it allowed me to experience and approach a new perspective when viewing art in the museums and applying what we learned during class into our real life learning throughout walking in the museum.

Met museum, final presentation, immigration narrative

Dream House because I usually don't think about decorating and interior design. So it was nice to dabble a bit in what a future home might look like

Question 3: Short Answer
Which of the following was a good use of technology for this course. What did you like about this/these platform(s)?
Wix, Powerpoint, Voice Thread, Blackboard

Wix: All assignments, due dates, readings, and more were easily accessible. Also, it was fun being able to have a portfolio for all the assignments we did throughout the semester. Customizing the website and its contents was fun as well.

Voice Thread: I liked that I was able to view the lectures at my own pace and that I had time to come up with more well thought-out comments. I liked being able to read and respond to a variety of people too.
I thought Voice Thread was an interesting mechanism. It was my first time using it. I think it's a good backup/alternative to public lectures

Wix - I feel like this was a good use of technology, since we used this to submit most of our assignments and did most of them on there. It also helped our creativity flow through the website. So, not only were we writing for the assignment, we were also designing and letting our creativity do the layout and anything we wanted on the website.
Voice Thread- i feel like this was also a good use of technology, since we were learning about the topics thorugh here. Also, the comments are permanent, so we could always refer back to it, rather than it being taught in person.
Creating a website on Wix was a highlight of this class. It seemed intimidating at first but I feel a lot more confident now, and am going to hopefully use the tech skills I learned in class to finally make my own food blog! I also think Blackboard and VoiceThread are reliable and have worked well for me.

I liked using Wix because it allowed me to express my creative side and incorporating my assignments into each tab was fun.

Wix and Voice Thread are the two platforms that helped me most in this course. I enjoyed having a designated tool to post all of my work and Voice Thread was very interactive and useful for distance learning.

I think having our own wixsite was a good use of technology for this course because it gave us a space to be creative and display the work we did for the class.

All items mentioned with the exception of VoiceThread. In the beginning it worked, but as the weeks went on, it did not work for me at all. I would try to go onto my iPad, Mac, and my phone and each had its own problem with voice thread, whether it was signing in, or I am unable to hear the voice. Other than that, all the other options were useful to me.

Wix, Powerpoint, voicethread (still laggy for me and not the greatest with super long powerpoints), Blackboard is very concise and efficient

Wix and Blackbooard just helped everything be organized. I did not like Voice Thread.

Wix definitely was fun. I loved creating my own website. I also liked having access to your website because it was great at keeping everything so organized. I always was able to find whatever I needed so quickly and your website never failed me!

Wix, voice thread, blackboard. They were all easy to use and understand

I actually think the Voice Thread was a good use of technology for this course because it allowed us to see the images, hear the description of the images and be able to read and respond to persons reactions and thoughts on these images.

I was unable to have good access to Wix and Voice Thread as they were not offered on the devices I have available to me or their apps were glitchy and almost unusable at some points. However, PowerPoint and blackboard worked fine.

All of the technology we used was useful. I liked the idea of creating a website to display my work. The PowerPoints I found to be super easy to follow. Then when you needed to refer back to something you could just look at the PowerPoint. Voice thread made it feel like we were still in class. So it was definitely a welcomed alternative in times like these. Blackboard rarely gives me any issues and I know when my professors receive my work. I also get an alert as soon as my grades are put in.

Question 4: Short Answer
Which was your favorite Field Research experience. Please explain.
The Met Museum, The Tenement Museum, MoMA

Met - I found the assignment really fun and exposed me to sections I normally didn't drift to, and the 'scavenger hunt' was fun.
The Tenement Museum was definitely super new and great for me, so it was a high up there second place.
The MoMa was my favorite research experience. I got to go with my mom and it was informative as well as a bonding experience.
The Tenement Museum was my favorite Field Research experience because I am a visual learner, so having had been inside an actual tenement and looking around and being able to have an image of what life was like for the tenants was very interesting.
The tenement museum was my favorite because it was the most interesting and the closest to realityT
The Tenement Museum was my favorite field research experience. I've always liked history and I liked this history lesson that came with the tour. I liked seeing and hearing about the lives of people and what they had to deal with.
The Tenement Museum had been on my NYC bucketlist for awhile so I'm glad I finally had an excuse to go! Seeing and feeling a certain lifestyle from a new and firsthand perspective not only helped me complete the assignment, but it was just very thought provoking and meaningful.
The Met Museum was by far my favorite. I could spend days in there! There is just so much art of all different types and it's such a peaceful place to escape and clear your head. My favorite field research was
The Met Museum because I liked the idea of finding paintings and pieces in a scavenger hunt format around the museum.I would say all were my favorite, but I would say the Tenement museum was my favorite, since it was my first time there. Also, I learned a lot about immigrants and what they had to go through.
I would say MoMA and the MET were my favorites, since I was able to go and look at artworks and just visualize it.
The Tenemant Museum was my favorite field research experience because I got the chance to actually be in the place various immigrants used to live and see their living conditions. I love how well they kept everything the same to allow for visitors to get a realistic view, as well as keeping the building up to standard enough for persons to walk inside.
MoMA: Though the Tenement Museum is a close second, I enjoyed MoMA the most because I had never been there before and I could spend as much time as I wanted there. I had the time to stop and look at many works of art, and seeing some pieces in person as opposed to a PowerPoint gave me a newfound appreciation for modern art - I was actually not a huge fan of modern art before.
I think I enjoyed the MoMA the most. I thought it was the best visual experience I liked the MoMA because there was more unique modern art that I personally like to see. Also, some of the artworks were made from materials that were popular in the past decade, so in my opinion I found it cool that the stuff that I grew up with is considered to be art.
The MoMA, it has very interesting modern art, it's got a lot more creative things to look at compared to the Met which includes history too.

Question 5: Short Answer
What, if anything, would you change about this course?

Personally, I dont believe anything should be changed in this class. I've enjoyed it and it's been a really great experience for me!

I would make the field research experiences more group oriented so as to allow for the students to get a chance to view the various sites together and hear each others views and opinions, as well as just get to know each other better.
Nothing really. Maybe the immigration essay, it didn't really add much to the theme of the class.
Personally, I felt that the Early Architecture I PowerPoint was a little repetitive in terms of information/visuals and it would have been nice to get a little more variety. But overall, every assignment and lecture had a purpose, and I was able to have fun with them.
Its hard to say because I feel like we did not get the full in-person experience, but I think a tour of one of the theaters in NYC would have bee amazing!
I do not think I would change something major of the class, but maybe try to space out assignments a little better. I am saying that because in the beginning, I feel like we had a good amount of time to plan it out and organize it, but towards the end, it kind of felt rushed and assignments were due like every week. I do understand why, since we transitioned from In-Person to Online. Other than that, I don't have any complaints or I would not make any changes.
The use of Wix and Voice Thread at least when the class is completly virtual because they are difficult to access using at least the technology I had at my disposal.
I wouldn't change anything. I think this course was perfectly reasonable. We had a week for each assignment and we were taught the material in order to do the assigments.
I wouldn't change anything about the course. It was very well balanced. Although there are many assignments, they are manageable and fun.
Something that I would change about this course is the length given to complete one assignment.
I wouldn't change anything about this course. Only that i wish we still got to go to Paris :(I would change the portion of the Tenement Museum. Although it was very interesting, I feel like there could have been something more fun to learn about regarding art in New York since it has so much to offer. I learned about the Tenement Museum awhile ago so it wasn't the most enjoyable thing to learn about.

Yes. The professor accomodated for all students' backgrounds and ideas. She was very open to other interpretations and ways of doing things. The students were also open-minded and understanding as well.

Yes, although my classmates and I were not able to interact with each other in person, Voice Thread really allowed us to hear each other out. The professor was always supportive, understanding, and made sure to give us clear instructions.

Yes to both! I loved Professor Albert and wish I had gotten to spend more time connecting with my classmates, but I did appreciate the thoughtful conversations we were able to have.

Yes, the professor and the classroom environment were supportive. I would say this because i feel like everyone was more open, so you would not be scared to ask them questions when you are confused or need help.
The Professor was really supportive and replied really quick and did everything in her power to help the students, which we really benefited from it. Overall, Yes the professor and the classroom environment were supportive.
Yes despite the pandemic

Yes, it was very informative and engaging

Yes it was. Students were always able to participate, share their thoughts and get feedback. All questions were answered.

The environment was very supportive. Professor Albert took her students feelings into consideration and implemented ways of make the class more enjoyable!

Yes. We were allowed to share our opinions on what we were viewing without being told we were wrong for what we thought or how we interpreted the various pieces of art.

I believe that it was because Ms. Albert was very sweet and truly involved everyone into the conversation. I was comfortable in the class.

The professor and class environment was definitely very supportive and I enjoyed spending time in the classroom. Unfortunately, it ended abruptly and I wished we got to spend more time in the classroom as I enjoyed the atmosphere of communicating and expressing ideas among one another.

Yes very much so. Whenever I sent an email she would respond so quickly and efficiently. If I had any concerns or problems she was extremely understanding as well. She also knew a lot about what she was teaching and held a lot of passion which is what made this class so informative and enjoyable.

Yes, more helpful than teachers for me back in high school, so available and so open to making things work so long as I myself put in the responsibility and effort to communicate openly and communicate promptly.

Yes, she allowed for open discussions and always helped with any questions.

I would highly recomend this course to anyone! Although there was a lot of work, the professor made it a wonderful experience!

N/A

Thank you for a wonderful class. Hopefully in the future we can still travel with the school together!

Overall, I had a really great semester. Though I wish we could have gone to Paris (I know that our assignments would have definitely enriched our experience too), overall the class was interesting, fun, and allowed students the freedom to test their creativity. I liked all the field trips, and using Wix/an e-portfolio was definitely a good choice for this class.

Even though we were not able to complete the semester the way we intended with the trip to Paris, I still found it very interesting and I learned a lot.

Thank you Professor Albert for being so kind and enthusiastic during each topic. You made distance learning very manageable for us. I have a new-found appreciation for art and will remember this course whenever I visit a museum/landmark in the future!

I am going to be honest and say that I was terrified for this class! I was so mad that all of my friends got to pick the theatre DNY because that was something I was super passionate about and interested in, and art in general has never been something that I easily understood or found interesting. However I told myself that this class and all of the work/material would be worth it because I was going to finally visit Paris. But even though we did not get to go abroad, this class was easily my favorite one of the semester. I am honestly just a huge nerd when it comes to how much I love NYC, and this course made me feel so much more connected to the city that I now get to call my home, but I was also so inspired and intrigued by both pieces that I had seen a million times or was just exposed to. The hands on element of getting to visit the Met and examine skyscrapers was an incredible experience that helped me get comfortable on the subway and appreciate so many amazing pieces/places. Professor Albert's clear passion for art made it so easy to understand and enjoy her class, and she has made such a wonderful effort staying connected with us online and transitioning our work to the VoiceThread format!

I don't have any additional feedback, other than keep doing what you do! You were by far an amazing professor and I loved your style of teaching and how you engage with your class. Thank you for everything that you do and I hope you are doing well!

It was a shame our course couldnt continue to the study abroad part of it, but regardless I hope to visit Paris some other time and take what I've learned and see where that takes me with my major and my future artwork/museum visits.
