My favorite section of this course was Analyzing art. I truly learned a lot and enjoyed the experience the most of going to the Met by myself and being so happy look at everything. I can say I learned a lot because recently due to the pandemic, I have been playing a lot of trivia games and I always get art questions and answer them correctly because I either saw the art work in class or saw it in the museum. This course really pushed me to go out more and wander and if it weren't for this pandemic going on, I would have loved to visit the place I did my final presentation on.

My favorite section was Pop Art to Street Art, mostly because I'm honestly a big fan of graffiti. Not that I'm condoning it or anything, but I love how people are able to throw their messages or opinions up in a public space and let its audience decide it's worth. Some of the artists' street art gained them great fame like Warhol, whereas others go unnoticed daily. Even though it's often temporary, it's interesting to see the messages street artists want an audience to witness.

Immigration and Early Photography were a personal favorite because it was nice to finally learn about how significant the city had within the topic of immigration. Originally I'd never given it much thought so that section of this course was very insightful and fun.

My favorite topics were analyzing art, pop art, and public art. I enjoyed learning how to describe artwork, which I was never able to properly do before. I also really enjoyed learning about pop art and public art because I feel that it is the type of art I like to look at the most. Learning about people's creative ideas when creating public art was really intriguing.

My favorite section throughout this course was Analyzing Art. I never knew how much art can have that much of an impact on us and teaching us how to analyze all types of art makes the process of analyzing a specific piece of artwork more enjoyable and meaningful to us in a way.

I really enjoyed the Street Art section because I'm attracted to street art that I've seen from all my adventures in Manhattan. This section had an urban vibe that drew my attention and interest.

My favorite sections of the course were analyzing art and all of the architecture sections. I enjoyed the analyzing art section because I was familiar with a decent amount of the artists so I got to learn about some of their other works thats I was not familiar with. I also enjoyed the architecture sections because I love learning about the techniques, materials, etc that go into a work of architecture

I really enjoyed Analyzing Art. I loved detailing pieces of art I had already seen as well as pieces I had been introduced to. I also enjoyed my trip to the Met. Even as a New Yorker, I have not been to the Met since I was very young so it was nice to have a push to go now that I know more about history and art and can appreciate it more. I also loved the Architecture units. I love the designs of buildings and homes and seeing the transition of New York City from when it first arose as a city to now. I have always been a fan of the older buildings myself.

Immigration and Early Photography - I felt like I learned a lot about the living conditions of immigrants through the photos.

Analyzing Art - I feel like I learned about the components of artwork that I never thought about - like the shapes and colors the artist uses

I think that the Met Museum Visual  Analysis was very beneficial because  I learned how to describe artwork in ways I didn't think I could. I feel like my knowledge about artwork was expanded. I also thought the Wix Website was beneficial because I learned how to organize all my assignments, as well as create my own website. I also enjoyed the final presentation because I was able to research more about my culture, as well as how it has influenced the rest of NYC.

The Immigration Narrative because of the amount of new things I was able to learn from several families that were impacted by their journey.

The MoMA midterm gave me a wider view on art. When I visited the museum, I looked at every floor and really saw how art has progressed in the past almost two centuries. The Architecture Photo Journal also opened my eyes to the idea that there is more meaning to buildings and structures than most people see on a normal day. It definitely made me more interested in the design process of buildings and the thought put into them.

MoMA Midterm - Modern Art/Art in Context

Modern art has always been the most challenging for me to understand and appreciate but going to the MoMA and writing about it was very beneficial.

The Immigration Narrative assignment was to me, the most beneficial because it allowed for us to connect back to our family's roots and to communicate to our family members about their past, and for us to gain any kind of information from them makes us have a more meaningful connection to them in general.

MoMA Midterm

Wix Website

The MoMA Midterm assignment was the most useful to me because I was able to research and learn a lot about the contextual factors that influenced Van Gogh.

The Met Museum Visual  Analysis and MoMA Midterm - Modern Art/Art in Context were both the most beneficial to me because it allowed me to view art in a different perspective from what I usually see it as. The explanation and analysis that I created allowed me to open my mind up to the genres of art and its different aspects, so when I see any new art now, I can look at something and be like, "oh this is contemporary, I really like these styles of art a lot."

Final Presentation

Wix Website

As I said before the Met Museum was my favorite, but i really was looking forward to presenting my website in the final. Since it was not possible I decided to pick my final presentation topic on Central Park which I really enjoyed searching up on and learning about. I alsop really liked designing my website.

The Immigration Narrative was definitely most beneficial to me. The tenement tour was so eye opening, to be actually standing in a small apartment where up to twelve people might have been living and hearing about their day to day activities. I also really enjoyed writing from the perspective of someone from that time period, and actually taking the time to do some research on my own family's upbringing in America.

Question 3:   Short Answer

Which of the following was a good use of technology for this course. What did you like about this/these platform(s)?

Wix, Powerpoint, Voice Thread, Blackboard

I loved the use of Voice Thread. I think that this class of all my classes had the best transition to online schooling. The weekly Voice Threads kept my attention and allowed for easy participation. I could give my background or opinion on certain art pieces or topics while also hearing from my classmates.

I really enjoyed the Wix platform because it is so easy for us to click on any assignments or refer back to notes talked about in class and for us to use it for our assignments was a fun and creative experience.

Wix: Offered a great and creative way for us to showcase our work. Taught us a valuable skill in website design.

Powerpoint: Good way to learn material. Allowed for photos to enhance our learning. Allowed us to take easy notes.

Voice Thread: Great way to adjust to online classes. Very immersive. Very personal and nice to still hear/see teacher. Felt very real.

Wix was a good implementation of this course because it gives us free reign to express our own insights and aesthetic while still aligning with the topic for projects.

I really liked using the Wix site for all our projects. It was really easy to get started and I just learned as I went. I also like how all my projects are now stapled to that page, so if I ever want to look back at what I've done it's right there. I even sent it to a friend recently because it was really cool to see all I've accomplished over this course.

I also think the Voice Threads were a great substitute since we were unfortunately unable to have class. I felt like I was still getting all the information I needed out of them, and I enjoyed reading others' comments and seeing what they thought about on certain pieces.

I liked having to use wix because knowing how to use it is a helpful tool. I also liked Voice Thread because it was a good replacement for in person lecture because we can hear your narration of a slide, make comments, and see our classmates' comments.

I thought that all of the technology we used was a good use for this course.  They were all beneficial in the way we were able to learn, do assignments, and submit assignments.

Wix and Powerpoint were my favorite. I liked that wix gave us a lot of variety on how to create our own page and I loved how Powerpoint let me record audios and desgin my Powerpoint really nicely.

I liked Wix, because it is very user friendly platform and it organizes things well.

VoiceThread allowed us to communicate with each other and still learn in this social distancing time period.

Blackboard allowed me to easily submit my assignments.

I really liked Wix because it put all the creativity into our hands and allowed us as students to choose what sort of style we wanted to display our assignments as, which was very fun.

Question 4:   Short Answer

Which was your favorite Field Research experience? Please explain.

The Met Museum, The Tenement Museum, MoMA

The Met Museum was my favorite field research because of the vast range of time periods the museum has art from and the seemingly never ending works to see. There was everything from Ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian art to Byzantine art to Renaissance art. There was also much more than just paintings.

I really enjoyed the Met Museum because it was a great way to see large parts of the musuem. The "scavenger hunt" was very fun and easy to understand. Each piece of art we had to look for gave us a great sense of all the areas of the museum.

I really enjoyed the Met Museum experience. I loved the idea of a "scavenger hunt" through the museum while getting a little lost along the way. I made a whole day out of it and was able to see so many pieces I've only remembered seeing in history books.

I sort of mentioned this before, but my favorite Field Research experiment was the Tenement Museum. I loved being actually immersed in the recreation of the apartment, and the tour guides were honestly just amazing at engaging us in the tenant's story.

The Met Museum was my favorite because the layout of the museum itself and the different eras and culture that I saw in this museum made me shocked because I never knew I lived in a state that had such a beautiful and enormous display for us, and it only cost $1 to go.

The Tenement Museum was my favorite experience regarding field research because it was something new. It wasn't a painting that'd I observe before exploring other pieces. It was a significant chunk if not piece of someone's life. It felt more hands on despite not being able to touch certain things within the building. I personally enjoyed learning the stories of families that made an impact and still are today.

My favorite field research experience was the Met and MoMA. I enjoy looking at artwork while walking through a museum. There was a lot to experience within the museum which I liked.

My favorite Field Research experience is the Tenement Museum, because the tour was very detailed and helped me visualize what it was like being an immigrant in the late 19th/early 20th centuries.

I enjoyed the field experience to the Tenement Museum because it was the first field trip where almost all of our classmates were together and it was a very informative first hand experience of what it was like living in a tenement.

The Met Museum. It was a nice experience to look at art by myself and really appreciate it.

The professor and the classroom made me feel very supported and comfortable because her kindness made me feel like I could express myself openly in a way that let my peers and I expand on each other's ideas. In addition, the classroom was an honors class, so it had about 12 people in it, making it easier to communicate with each other and the professor, giving a more personal experience in learning the material.

It was very supportive and responsive as well. Communication was always a plus for this class environment .

Yes, I always felt encouraged to participate and ask questions. I felt that the environment was open, intelligent, productive, and I learned a lot from my classmates and professor alike.

Our professor was very supportive. She was readily available through email with whatever problems we are facing, and whenever we had a concern, either personal or about the coursework, she was able to speak with us after class and she is very understanding and supportive.

Although we were only in the classroom for a short time, I always enjoyed going to this class. The class was small and most people were not uncomfortable to speak up, including myself. I think Professor Albert did a great job of making us feel comfortable while getting us to participate. Even when we went online, she kept her communication lines open and was very supportive.

Yes, everyone was very respectful and the professor answered any questions we had about the assignment.

Yes. The professor was very accepting of everyone's viewpoints and opinions. She did a great job of explaining things, encouraging students, and keeping class interesting.

Yes, very she engages with her students a lot and it was my favorite part of the class.

Yes, the professor and the classroom environment were very supportive. Professor Albert was always engaging with the class and giving everyone a chance to participate. The class was also very supportive and nice, and always willing to help each other out.

Definitely. I was a bit intimidated coming into the class because I had a very limited knowledge of art and architecture, but all the material was presented well and I felt well prepared doing the projects. I also felt great going into the museums, because I knew what direction I wanted to be headed in walking in and was able to relax and explore.

This was a very fun course to take and I really appreciate the mindset and knowledge it gave me in regards to art and architecture. I had never written about art before and it was a very enjoyable and valuable experience. Art museums werent a major interest of mine before, but now I actually enjoy them and understand the art much better. Thank you!

Even though we weren't able to experience all of the Field Research experiences, I still felt very engaged in this class, and it was one of my favorite classes this semester.

The class was very enjoyable, and one of the few classes at St. John's that I truly enjoyed. The material and learning experience were the best.

Thank you for a wonderful class. I was able to learn a lot and even enjoy the things we discussed.
