Line Assignment 3: Free Form Line
In this exercise we will continue to explore line weight, direction and overall composition using a combination of curves, horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines.
Your goal is similar to the first two projects - to break up the picture plane in a dynamic way and create a sense of movement and space. Dynamic compositions are energetic and active, and usually asymmetrical. Start with light lines, and then decide on which you want to make darker. In this project you may experiment with representation.

1. Research: look for imagery that will inspire you. Some examples might include landscape forms, water, figure or portrait, architecture, etc.
2. Start by doing a few thumbnail preliminary sketches
2. Create two 7x7 inch drawings. Each should be centered on a sheet of drawing paper. (2 inch border on the sides, 3.5 inch on top and bottom.)

This project is Due 9/20
Here are some things you may want to explore:
How can you create a sense of space and dimension?
How can you achieve a sense of movement across the picture plane?
How can you generate pictorial tension in a square format?
How will you use different line weights to achieve depth and space?
What makes for a dynamic composition that keeps the viewer’s eye moving?
