Multiple Viewpoints: Dynamic Movement and Transparency

Materials: Drawing Paper, pencils, erasers, tracing paper, watercolor paper (I will provide), gouache, sharpie, micron

Historical Context: Photography reveals the unseen; new technology creates a fascination with speed!

Muses:
Cubists: Natalia Goncharova, Ljubov Popova, Juan Gris, Picasso, Duchamp
Futurists: Boccioni, Balla, Kupka

Research:
Take five photographs in black and white of the same subject from five different viewpoints: straight on; from the left; from the right; from above; from below.
Your subject can be:
Self portrait (head or torso)
Portrait of someone else (head or torso)
Landscape/Cityscape
Interior
Still Life

suggestion: try a few different subjects from three angles before committing to one idea.

Set up:

-
On a single page of your sketch pad create a rectangle 7 1/2" x 10 1/2" with 1 3/4" borders on all four sides.
-
Print all five with the images in Black and White dimensions being 7 1/2" x 10 1/2"

Step 1:
Trace the the general forms of each photo using tracing paper. (You may do separate tracings or condense step 2 by tracing each photo in layers onto the same piece of tracing paper.)
Step 2:
Flip over each traced image and retrace the image on the back of the tracing paper
Step 3:
Flip back to the "front" of each tracing and transfer each in layers onto the sketch paper

Step 4:
Fill in shapes using varying values of graphite, making changes (subtracting, adding) as needed

Step 5:
Adjust the values thinking about the overall composition

Step 6:
Once you are satisfied with your design, trace it, flip it over and retrace
Step 7:
On a single page of Watercolor paper create a rectangle that is 7 1/2" x 10 1/2" with 1 3/4" borders on all four sides.

Step 8:
Transfer onto WC paper

Step 9:
Paint in gouache and/or mixed media (micron, sharpie, graphite, gouache) using a full range of values
KEEP the BORDER CLEAN
